Candles in the corner. I used to love

this little corner in the kitchen. But

when we bought our SMEG kettle,

my sweet candles got moved so dh

could have the kettle out all the time

in the Winter. One day I'll have them!

My new desk finally arrived from Wayfair.

And this corner in my tiny office is now ready

for intense but compassionate work. I am so

looking forward to heading back in tomorrow.

Sewing Vignette.

Over the last year of working from home and living from home, all the time, we've worked on various projects to keep busy. The art studio was one area that got a lot of our attention. It's been fun pulling it all together. We're almost done. A bit more organizing to complete, then some curtains to source or sew, and hang. Then I'll take photos and show how we put together this amazing spot to create. 

As you enter the studio, on the left side is a little alcove and we placed a vintage dresser in this spot. Inside the dresser is baby clothes that had meaning and we've kept. Some very vintage from my childhood up to our little grand babies. Not sure yet if these precious items will be shadow boxed or made in to quilts. But for now, they are safely tucked away in my dh's grandfather's dresser. The bottom drawer also holds the overflow material I've collected for quilting. We have a tall dresser in another corner that holds the majority of my material, as well as lace, extra doilies my gramma made and sewing tools. Now I'm all ready to sew again.

I created this sweet corner with sewing in mind. The lamp was a thrift store find and perfect as we've added a bit of teal into this space, along with our traditional lavender, sage green and ivory. The carved shelf was a clearance bin sale from Michael's. The original tag said $69.99 but I paid $10.00 for it. A collection of thimbles, buttons and scissors grace this space. The tin sign was an antique mall find and it finally has it's home. Ejoy my little sewing vignette!

Off to shower and get ready for work. Sleep last night was not great with the storms but they've finally stopped. I have a break later today between work and my board meeting tonight, so a nap may be in order. Hope your day is amazing and quiet! Namaste my dear blogging buddies.

Little Houses.

I love little houses. Even as a child, I would draw them in my notebooks and in all my artwork. All our married life, we've had tiny houses, though our last one was a good size as we had many small children. Though this house is not tiny, we still call it our "cottage" and love to decorate in a cottage style. I picked up these sweet little houses at a store one day, where I had ducked in to for a few minutes to get out of the pouring rain. I searched for my warm lunch, then came around the corner of an aisle and they had these on the shelf, for 85% off. Such a deal! So I bought 5 of them. Each is different and I love the details. Tiny, cozy and colorful.

I've often shown favorite corners in our cottage but I love this one a lot. I'm not looking for some pretty fabric to create curtains that I can see in my head, blowing in the breeze. And to cover a window seat cushion, once I have that made too. Sweet now but will even be better in the future. The shelf I've talked about before. It was an awful dark color but much brighter now. Plants do well here and my tiny wreath hanging from the shutters gives a warm feeling of home. The highchair was gifted to us and is now a spot for a little pillow that says "I'm in the Garden" and another little plant in a vintage pot that is doing well here. The quilted pillow was a great find in a charity shop, as was the bunny who rests beside it. And you can see my one hat that I sometimes wear in the garden. Special treasures in the shelf, including a vintage tea pot someone gave me, some prints, glass birds and on top, one of my favorite lanterns.

Cozy Corner.

 

Feeling so lucky leaving my office the

other day. My ED gifted me her chair

from her office so I could set up a cozy

counselling corner for clients. I have

plans for a table in between, along with

a tall lamp behind the chair on the right.

Some lovely art and perhaps a hanging

shelf or some nicknacky items. So blessed.

Sweet Corner.

When we designed our house, I tried

to incorporate some interesting little

"nooks and crannies" in the layout.

This is one of them. A little alcove

in our shared walk in closet to house

an extra dresser that holds my undies,

socks, bras, tank tops, pyjamas, long

sleeved shirts and the last two drawers

hold gift bags, wrapping paper, tissue

paper and gift tags. All greeting cards

and other stationary are downstairs

in the living room in the secretary. I

love this sweet corner and have filled

it with scented soaps, perfumes (some

are my moms), jewelry, tiny teddies

and little items that are special to me.

A sweet little corner, just for me to

hold things that I love and cherish.

Isn't it awful?

Our landscaping continues. This is the

corner that I hate but we have plans!

Here our air conditioner is housed, the

dog run for our pup who is no longer

with us. We hope to have a new pup

in the future, so it's clean and ready to

be used then. We have 4 lamps on the

left (only 3 are visible) and there are

some weeds and a scraggly tree that

planted itself! So what are the plans?

We started today and cleared out the

weeds, leveled the ground, picked up

any large stones we could find, moved

the 4 lamps to their mutually agreed

upon spots, extended the tiny walk way

with the recycled tire stepping stones,

decided where we would put the extra

rain barrel we have and put the falling

apart straw bale into the trees in the

middle of the trees. Next we'll fill the

open space with mulch, dig around

the tree and fill it with fresh dirt, and

then we'll be bringing in some clay

and dirt to build up the space beyond,

Real Life.

Actually this doesn't show the true picture of real

life as I only took the "after" shot! Before this area

looked so tidy, it had a number of medications by

the lamp, bread in bags, some tea cups and a towel.

I try to keep everything so tidy but every once in a

while, life slips and something is out of place. All

better now and hopefully this corner will stay nice

and tidy. For now, real life. Until it's messy again.

Nook Corner.

I have so many favorite spots in our house but this one is new to me, now that we have our shutters installed. I was hoping we'd like the classic look of wood shutters but had no idea I'd fall in in love with them. Now we're waiting for the family room units to be put in. Then we'll sit with these for the Winter (and save) and make a decision if we want to add them to more windows throughout the house. The small wreath we found at the charity shop for $1. I was going to hang it on the front door but then threw it up on the shutters and now I want to find one for each window!

The quilted pillow was a find from the Antique Mall a few years ago. One of my favorite booths had a little sale and I scored this treasure. The tiny plant was a gift from my dh in the Spring. A surprise one cold and snowy day. Still blooming and still tiny but so very sweet. I love it!

An antique shelf I painted to match the kitchen cabinets. A $10 find at the charity shop years ago. I featured it often in my blog posts when we still lived in our other house. It sat for a bit in our storage room and then one day, I grabbed it to hang in the art studio, after it was to be painted of course. But it never left the kitchen and somehow found it's way to our nook. The arched frame was a Michael's "buy one, get one free" sale. I found this and another item for the new house. I love the plant has been slowly creeping up the frame, almost overtaking it. A few vintage pots and some postcards with sweet memories on the back. It really is a lovely corner to sit and view outside. Or have a snack. Or take care of my plants. Or decorate through the seasons.

A Favorite Corner.

 

Do you have a favorite spot in your home? I have a number of spots that I love to spend time in. Maybe I'll do a little feature here on the blog about all the corners in our home. Let me know if you'd like that. I'd love to see yours too! Lace curtains let the sunlight shine through, the small lamp adds more when the days are dark with clouds or in the evening when just a bit of light in this corner is needed. A small round vintage picture from the Antique Mall and a framed floral print underneath, above the china rabbit (she has clothes on!) sitting on a wire chair and a potted plant.

The corner I've chosen today is in our main floor turret ~ it's 3 stories high, with the lower level housing our daughter's kitchen nook and the upper level is our master bedroom sitting area, complete with a window seat under all the windows. On the main floor, we use this corner in a variety of ways though the year. It houses our old Victrola, currently a writing desk and our tea cart (not pictured). Oh, and my gramma's hope chest (also not pictured) sits along the end of the staircase. It holds our Christmas tree decorations through the years. In the Winter, this space is where we set up our Christmas Tree. And other times, we move the desk out and the piano in and it becomes the music room. Very versatile and always fun to change around. 

I love the 2 floral prints we picked up at the charity shop for $4 for both. But then it was a 50% off day, so we actually got both for $2. We bought them to put in to our Antique Mall booth. However, after a few weeks of sitting on the desk, I picked one up and held it up in this spot and suddenly they had a new home! Love them and I do promise to take a closer shot so you can see the lovely flowers and the border and the pretty gold frames. The plant in the stand has tripled in size since we moved it there a few months ago. The light is just perfect but it's grown so quickly, I'm going to have to repot it soon. The wrought iron unit it is sitting in was a boot sale find ~ I recall paying about $6 for it. At the end of the day. No one else had bought it, so the vendor reduced it down to $6 just as I walked over to her. Perfect timing! Underneath is a folk art basket and a stone angel that I should probably put in the garden in the Spring but for now, it sits cozy and content on the bottom shelf. Resting next to is is another wrought iron piece that we're trying to decide where it should go. It was at the charity shop, sitting behind some pots and other outdoor items, almost buried. Paid $4 for it, again on a 50% off day. It was in my cart and every few minutes someone was stopping me in the shop to ask where I had found it! According to the staff, it had sat in that very spot for over 2 weeks. And suddenly everyone wanted it. I love treasure hunting there because you really have to be willing to push other items aside to see what's hidden behind. So much fun!

One of the many writing desks in our home. We have a desk under the stairs in the great room, this one in the turret, the secretary desk in the living room, a desk in our guest bedroom, one in our master (in the turret that is set up like a mini office) and my husband's editing desk in the art studio. Grandson has a desk in his bedroom in the apartment and youngest dd has one in her bedroom as well. If I've counted right, that is a total of 8 desks in one house. On this desk is a sweet birdhouse unit. Each of those round holes is actually a drawer. I don't have anything inside at the moment but in time, this might end up in the art studio to hold small art items. Or in the laundry room where I have collected framed prints of birdhouses. Next to it is a small pink candle holder, then a framed picture of dh's grandparents. On the back, it says "Wedding 1927" and we're trying to determine what their wedding date was. Next is a pile of notepads, typed up with a pretty blue ribbon and a vintage banker's lamp that belonged to dh's parents. I love the green ladder back chair. The other one sits at our desk in our master bedroom. This is a lovely spot to sit and write, while gazing out at the little forest to the south of our house. A calming and inspiring spot in so many ways.

The lace curtains let in just the right amount of light and filter the strong sun on the days it's very bright outside. I love that we can see our little potting shed through the lace. We truly don't need curtains out here but I don't like the look of completely naked windows ~ to me, they always look like the room is unfinished. Working on the second layer of curtains to go on here. I have the living room and dining room figured out, along with the kitchen nook, the laundry room, the french deck door and the huge window in the great room ~ that's a whole other post. But the turret still needs some thought. I'm in no rush. I know just the right look will come to mind one day. There are 4 windows in the turret and they are very tall ~ 6 feet in total height. So planning here for window coverings will take some time and a lot of input from family. We'll get it right, in time!

That's the tour of my current favorite corner. I'll take shots of the hope chest and the tea cart later. I'm off to spend some time with my family on this special "Family Day Holiday" in Canada. I don't think we need a day off to spend with family as we're together all the time but appreciate our leaders believed in a day to reconnect and do something fun with family and friends.
