Dollhouse Update.

A little dollhouse update, inspired by
our recent trek to the Dollhouse Show.

At the show, I found the perfect wallpaper
for the living room ~ a pretty shade of blue.

And then remembered I had found this
paper for the kitchen at last year's show.

Time to put it up before doing the living
room. And now to decide what color to
paint the opposite two walls now that the
paper is successfully installed. Any ideas?

Building a dollhouse from scratch.

Look what we found!! Our 4th dollhouse
to add to our little collection. To date,
we haven't done any work on any of
them. Our real house build was first.

Now that our build is done & we've
moved home, it's time to start to get
truly serious about fixing these great
structures up. Only one is brand new.

As we're new to the craft, we're learning as
we go. Laying out the pieces was the easy part.

Putting them together is a bit more challenging.
Not everything fits together perfectly. I've already
made some adjustments, like moving this brace
down a few mm to better fit with the flooring.

Now the floor that will rest there will be
lined up much better & provide an even base.

We've come across an issue that I'm not
yet sure how to fix ~ a window is crooked!

As a perfectionist, this is driving me crazy.
Fingers crossed we can figure out how to
take it apart & get it lined up. I'd hate to
always look at it if it wasn't right.

Any projects you are working on?
Did you have a dollhouse as a child?

Holiday Closures.

I feel so lucky on a daily basis to work for the charitable organization I'm part of. We are a tight group, celebrating not just our highs at the centre and observing those tough times together, but also supporting each other through our every day challenges: raising kids, managing personal finances and sharing our relationship complexities at times. We don't have benefits but are paid well and we tend to stay on for a bit longer than the norm. But the one perk we get each year is a holiday break at Christmas. This year, we closed on the 24th and we aren't open again until January 6th, 2014. I had a couple of days saved from extra hours in December, so I don't go back until the 8th. This holiday is bliss and we all are so appreciative of the opportunity to rest, relax and rejuvenate our souls.

I was shocked this year to observe on a number of occasions many community members expressing disbelief and displeasure that certain establishments would not be open over the holidays. I had a friend vent that Costco would be closed on Christmas Day. She was truly angry and was going to call the head office to complain. Whoah! Other people were upset that the library was closed yet the movie theatre was open. What? Blew me away. I wish everyone could have a nice break at Christmas. Don't we all deserve this time to spend with family and friends?

Dollhouse Sale.

We recently went to a Dollhouse Sale and couldn't believe how crowded it was! We thought we were the only ones that had taken on this task of putting an old dollhouse back together. But we were wrong. There were hundreds of people who attended and we learned quickly to buy an item you see that is just right. Mulling it over, picking it up, putting it back down may result in someone else snatching it up. We're happy with our new items for this project and will be well prepared for next year. For just a mere $80, we are pleased with our finds at the sale.

Here's what we came home with:

Miniature blanket and quilt.

Tools and kitchen items.

More kitchen and decorating items.

Paving stones for the garden, baskets, bicycle,
soft grass, kite, kitty and small bench.

We'll have quite the kitchen once it's done!

All things to make this sparse house cozy!
