Thrifted Gift.

One of my staff members gifted me
this sweet dish for my desk. She knows
my style and knows I love thrifted items.
I feel beyond blessed to have my team!

Staff Gift.

Each of us the hospice received this
lovely jacket, with our logo over our
hearts and our names on the sleeve.
Warm and cozy and precious to wear.

BBQ at Work.

We are so lucky to have amazing staff
at our hospice and our chef with his
team are high on the list. Especially
when they make all of us a fantastic
bbq lunch! I couldn't eat the meat of
course but loved the grilled corn on
the cob, the salads and the fresh baked
bun. So good and it was hard to eat my
dinner last night. We are well taken care
of and I love my work even more now!

Love in a Box.

We are so loved at our hospice. Our work is heart centred and difficult at times, but the moments with our residents and their families make it worth the time and the tears. Today when I went in to support our staff and our residents and family members, I picked up my "Love in a Box" gift that was curated by one of our donors. Such a neat idea and one that I'll always remember as a sweet way to show how much our work is appreciated. With cookies and salty snacks, gummies and popcorn, I am looking forward to indulge in this special treat. A little "love in a box!"

Namaste.

Staff Gifts.

I love making gifts for my staff each year.
This year, I created a warm, scented candle.

Small mason jar, lavender infused Epson salts,
glitter and some greenery to tie it all in. A pretty
card and festive bag and each of them were so
touched by this small gift. Makes me happy too.

More Gifts.

For my other staff, I gave gifts that were handmade
and fun to create. I'll write another post but wanted
to show how pretty they looked all wrapped up and
ready to be presented. Another activity I love.

Off to a Meeting.

We have had quite the revolving door at our organization the last 4 years. I'm not sure exactly why people come & go so quickly but as a Human Services non-profit charity, it's common for staff to move around a lot. I hate it personally. I feel it's not fair to our clients, who become close to us due to the nature of the work we do. They get close, then the staff member leaves. And they have to start a new relationship all over again. I wish staff would commit to being here, sticking it out when it's rough & rising above the challenges.

Maybe I'm the odd guy out.

I've been here for 9 years, the longest employee they've ever had. At our recent Strategic Plan Workshop with staff, board members & volunteers, they posed the lingering question to me "why are you still here when everyone else leaves us?" I gave them my thoughts & the rest of the day was thanked by the board members & the volunteers who seemed in awe of my ability to stay. I love my program too much to leave but it gave me a lot to think about.

Today, our newest staff member has requested a meeting with me. I'm the odd ball of the group, the hippy, the crunchy granola mama. Everyone tries to understand me. Not sure they ever get it. But I'm always a curiosity at the beginning. This is getting old, the meeting to figure me out, but hey, I'll play along. She seems lovely. I'm not investing a big amount into any relationship just yet.

Maybe this new staff member will be the one to stick around! Fingers crossed!

Do you make commitments & ride out the rough times or do you bolt at the first sign of a less than perfect scenario?
