Stormy Days.

Every day now it seems we're having

big storms. It's hot, there is still a bit

of smoke from the fires and then the

rains come, which is great but the big

storms are more than enough. We need

the rain but not the thunder! Stop please!

Unbearable Heat.

It is so hot, the benches at the park have curled up.

It is so hot, people are dying from heat stroke. I can

not remember in my entire life this kind of heat. It's

so unbearable, but I am so thankful we have central

air in the cottage and at work. I wish I could work

in the garden today but other than watering it all, it

is not comfortable to be outside. So today, we'll stay

in and keep cool. I may do some office tidying and

work in the art studio but other than that, it will be

a lazy day of cooling down. Hope you stay cool!

Heat Warning.

We are currently under a heat warning that started on Monday and goes until sometime late tomorrow. I'm so very thankful that our cottage has air conditioning, my little car too and our hospice has a cooling system as well. The sun is out, things are growing but it's far too hot to sit outside or do any true gardening. For now, in the morning, when it's cooler, we put our potted plants out on the back deck for a short time, I water them and deadhead, then let them sit until the water has dried on the leaves. Takes at least a solid hour, so off to work I go and then dh brings them in and lines them up on the nook floor on mats. This gives them sun each day and water but they aren't sitting in the extreme heat and wilting. Lots of work bringing them in and out but worth the effort to keep them looking so amazing! I love walking through the garden in the morning, when it's just me and the birds, gathering water from the rain barrel and making sure all the green sprouts are well watered before it gets too hot. I'm happy we're almost done this heat wave and hope we don't have too many this Summer. Always scares me that fires will become an issue.

My to do list was huge today and I'm happy with my accomplishments. I have one more email to send and then I'm shutting everything down so I can get back to my book. Everyone else is happily settled in their own spaces, away from the heat and it's quiet in our cottage tonight. I love nights like this, where contentment reigns, and life is good. Dh is doing his show for the night and then we'll likely watch a taped show, then off to bed once the cottage is cooler. So thankful for a house that doesn't hold the heat too much, and even more thankful we can turn on the AC for about 20 minutes, then shut it down and leave the system fan on to circulate the cool air. I have a friend who leaves her AC all day and all night. That would be way too cold for me. I don't like to be overly hot but cold is not good either. Tomorrow will be better and then we can get more work down outside again. Our neighbor came over with his small tractor on the weekend and he was amazing in moving some dirt down to the spot we want to build our new shed. Now we need more dirt. Hoping to order that tomorrow so we have it for the weekend. Weeding, moving some plants, building the deck and then getting the patio stones ordered are our focus the next week or so. At some point, painting the deck will be next, then the front veranda. It's all coming together. Can't wait for it to be all completed, but at the end of the day, will the landscaping ever be completely finished?

Comic Relief!

We're going thru a bit of a heat wave this week. I want to be outside in my garden but the heat is far too unbearable. My work is in an old building and there is no air conditioning and we have great fans but it's still too hot! Last night, my daughters and I converged in the cool family room in our house to unwind from a busy day, with our big fan turned on high. After making dinner, doing dishes and some laundry, the thought of sitting in my home office upstairs was too much. And as much as the weeds need to be pulled, they're going to have to wait a few extra days. We're promised temps of 30 today, 31 tomorrow, 32 on Thursday, then a balmy 24 with rain on Friday. Can't wait for the relief!

 

Typically a Monday night is busy outside or sometimes I tag along with my dh to his theatre rehearsals, so watching tv isn't always on the agenda. He still went to his gig that is now rehearsing in a stuffy garage where the set is erected until the show opens in August. We spent some time surfing the channels and came across the funniest show any of us has seen. It's crass but so amusing, especially if you like British humor. 

 

Mrs. Brown's Boys was first broadcast in 2011 and just showing up now on our channels. The lead character, a female called Agnes Brown, is played by a male actor. And some of his real life family are in the production as well, including his real wife and a couple of his adult children. We watched two episodes last night, then You Tubed it (is that a word?) and watched a few more. My ribs hurt today from laughing so hard. A great distraction on a hot summer night when being distracted was much better than trying to cope with and work in the heat. Fun "night off" with my daughters. Comic relief from the heat!!

 

And now we have a new obsession ~ downloading all the Mrs. Brown's episodes we can find!
