Blogtober: Day 3.

When I was growing up, my family
loved watching "All in the Family."
I didn't quite get all the jokes at the
time as I was so young but I truly did
enjoy my parents laughing at a time
when we were all so young, with
very little money and many dreams.
They saw something in the show that
I can now see as an adult and truly
appreciate the opportunity to watch
programs from my childhood. The
series is now done on the channel it
was being rerun on but my dh found
the DVD set and ordered it for us so
we can watch all the episodes all over.
Any opportunity to have a good laugh!

Did you watch "All in the Family?"

Good Girls.

Realized that we were so far behind in this
series so now we're trying to catch up so
we can then watch the newest season. It
is an amazing and very funny show called
"Good Girls" ~ have you been watching?
If not, I highly recommend. Go watch it!

The Waltons.

A favorite when we were growing up
and now as adults, both dh and I love
watching The Waltons. We have the
DVD set but it's also on our lineup for
tv shows and sometimes, when it's cold,
it's time for warm tea and a Walton's story.

Tradition.

I have a little tradition that started the year we had our first baby, our now eldest daughter. She was such a good baby and napped each afternoon. All my new mommy friends would tell me how they would use nap time as "me time" and hang out on their couches to watch soaps all afternoon. I discovered quickly that because she slept so well, at night too, that I wasn't the exhausted mama I thought I was supposed to be. So I used the afternoons to get things done while she slept. Our mornings were often quiet .... a walk to our little park or a morning out to a fitness class with friends, or shopping. Afternoons were different. While she napped the afternoon away, I would tidy the house, do laundry, create dinner, make lists and take care of anything I could so we could have our evenings with dh. But I found it too quiet, so I did get in to a habit to turn on the tv, very low volume but just enough to hear some voices. I found Coronation Street was on each day at 2 p.m. and loved my British show that I had grown up on. But could not, no matter how hard I tried get in to the American soaps. She would go down right around 1, so I discovered a show called "Days Of Our Lives" and while I didn't get into the story lines, I did fall in love with their Christmas Tradition. If you've seen the show, you'll know what I'm talking about but I'll describe.

The family gathers at the home of the elders and they each place a Christmas ball on the tree with their name on it. Any family members who have died over the year get a special mention and their ball is placed by a loved one. Such a nice way to decorate the tree together. Every year since, I've watched only this episode, as the days of dear daughter napping long ago ended. And with the addition of each child since then, our tv was rarely on during the day, except for the Christmas episode each year. And this year, we all watched it together, as you can see above. Fun! We may even start this tradition, if we can find some nice Christmas balls for our tree. And glitter! A lovely tradition.

My Inspiration.

When I was young, the tv series "Little House on the Prairie" was launched on Sunday nights. I loved the show and couldn't wait for the next episode. Reading the books prior to the show, and then again during the run, this was always one of my favorites. You may wonder  if the name of my blog had any  relation to the books and the tv series and my response is Yes! The fact that we got to finally live out our dream of living in "our little house in the big woods" was the background inspiration to my title. Shopping the other day at Costco, I spotted these DVD's in the cute little house box. Not on my wish list but I couldn't resist taking a pic. We have so many series that we've acquired over the years and now with things like Netflix, buying DVD's isn't on the radar. But this little house box was cute and I couldn't resist taking it.

Lucifer.

We met when we were cast in the same theatre production in 1981. He was the guy, I was to be his girl. And after that, it stuck and eventually (well three years later), we were married. Started our little family and in time, all our kids have been involved in the arts in different ways. We still act and still love our craft, especially theatre. Our eldest son has ventured a bit farther. He's back living on the West Coast, where we lived for a short time when they were young and where lots of our family members reside. He's traveled the world and now has an agent in both L.A. and Vancouver. Proud of all our kids and he's no exception to that rule. So this mama will brag just for a moment. A few weeks ago, he was in an the season premiere of "Arrow", playing a character named Skel who sports a gun and throws the lead character, the Green Arrow off a building. Not a nice guy at all! Last night, he appeared in the second episode of a new series called "Lucifer", playing character Robbie Russell, Jr. Here's some shots from a couple of his scenes:

The puppy in the picture frame is his little pup Anakin,
who is also an actor! We like to keep it in the family!!

That's my mommy brag for the day.
Thanks for reading it!!

Favorite HGTV Show.

One of our favorite channels on tv is HGTV.
And right now, our favorite show is "Fixer Upper".

Chip and Joanna make renovating a house
seem so easy with their easy going style.

Don't they look like
they have so much fun?

They rarely get upset, they seem so relaxed even
thought we know it's a big job to rip apart a house.

So refreshing to see a couple that really works well
together instead of being stressed with each other.

Neighbors with Benefits.

After a very busy day, after my dh had gone to play hockey with his team, grandson was tucked into bed & younger dd was in her room, chatting with a friend, my dd & I surfed channels tonight. We finally stumbled across a new show that we had seen a commercial for. Titled "Neighbors with Benefits" it was definitely not our cup of tea! We did manage to watch about 1/2 the show & it created some vibrant discussion. Our final verdict: "swinging" with other partners is not something any of us could ever imagine being attracted to. Just can't see how it adds to a healthy relationship to share your love with someone else, physically. I personally believe a truemarriage is meant to be between 2 & no one else. But that is my comfort level & clearly it is not for others who are captured in this reality show. I'm truly not a prude, but yuck!

Have you ventured into watching this new series?

Corrie!

We are, perhaps, the world greatest Corrie Fans.

Life literally stops every night at
our house at 7:30 p.m. so we can tune in.

Even the 2 year old stops in his tracks when the music starts playing at the top of the show. He knows it's quiet time as momma, gramma, grampa and auntie sit back to watch the lives of the families who reside on Coronation Street. I was first introduced to the show when I was just 2 years old and being cared for by a very lovely older lady, who every afternoon would tuck me in on the couch. When she thought I was sleeping, I was actually peeking out from under the blanket to watch the show, then shown in black and white. I grew up on it, my parents watched on Sunday mornings to catch up as they worked all week, I introduced my husband to it, our children have all watched and continue to tune in, and now our sweet grandson watches to.

Five generations - amazing!
