Election Night.

Last night was a late night in our cozy little cottage as we watched the tv and kept refreshing the websites that were tracking the results from our 44th National Election here in Canada. The election was just called on August 15, 2021 and we went to the polls on September 20, 2021. It was not a lot of time and at the end of the day, a whole lot did not change. I'm not sure why the election was called when our current Prime Minister decided, in the middle of a Pandemic, and half way thru his current term, to suddenly call a "snap election." Why?? We'll never know but we all voted, nothing really changed and today, that election cost over $600,000 million. So disappointed in this current government. And hope when we go back to the polls AGAIN in 18 months that there will be a change .... we truly need new direction.

Federal Election.

It's that time again in Canada. The treed boulevards

are suddenly covered in bright Election signs, the tv

commercials will soon start and the lively debates are

well underway. Yes, it is now Federal Election time in

Canada. The call came a few weeks ago and we go

to the polls on October 21, 2019 to vote in the current

Prime Minister, or a new one, as well as the Members

of Parliament who will represent all the communities

across this vast land. An exciting time but also a bit

stressful as we all figure out the very best candidates.

Early Votes.

We have a Provincial Election coming up on

April 16th. This will determine the new leader

of our Province. With just 3 weeks between the

time the Election was called and the day we all

vote, there isn't a lot of time to figure out who

to mark down on the ballot. I have a pretty good

idea so I feel confident in my choice. As does dh.

We have to vote early this time and are happy we

can still participate, even though we aren't home

on the day of the vote. Thankful for this option.

No Words.

Over the last few days, I've read many, many blogs

The words that those of you affected in the U.S. by

the unbelievable change that shook the world on

the 9th describe such despair and helplessness. I

have tried to write several times, to find words that

would bring clarity or comfort, care and compassion.

But words elude me. How does one share thoughts

when it feels like life has spiraled out of control

for those south of our border? In the end, there is

truly nothing I can say that will make it all better.

All I can share is that all of you are in our minds, 

all of you are held in our hearts and all of you are

always welcome here. I have thrown my own fears

out to the Universe and hope that there are enough

sane people in this insane time to ensure that no

harm will come to any citizen and that our world

will find ways to combat the differences so that true

peace will reign over all of us. Fear won't win here.

No Vote Here.

I was raised in a home and within a community where politics are taken quite seriously. From an early age, I knew it was my right, my privilege and my obligation to vote. Over the years, with each election, I debate the pros and cons of the candidates and vote according to their platform and my own beliefs. Our system here in Canada is pretty straight forward and we are fortunate to not have a really long election process. We've always followed the American elections and I personally loved the Obamas in the White House. This new journey our neighbors in the south are on though has really got me concerned for all. Fearfully worried. 

It's quite a helpless feeling to watch something so confusing unfold and there is nothing we can do or say to make it work out nicely. And yet, we will all be so impacted by the decisions made on November 8th. I know that if I was having to cast a ballot, either candidate is not who I would want to vote for. One in particular is a huge worry. His comments and aggressive behavior are puzzling and it's not clear to me why anyone would consider him to become the leader of a prominent country. She has her own faults, as we all do, but I think at least her experience of being a former President's wife does give her some lead over someone who has not held office prior to this pivotal time in the political landscape. Neither is great, neither is perfect, neither is ideal, neither is completely worthy. And yet, they are the two choices. 

We will watch with great interest on the 8th and hope that the right decision will be made. Thinking of all those who have to make this difficult choice.

And now we wait!

Today, we voted in our municipal election for our mayor, council and school trustees. I can't wait to see what the outcome is and hope by the end of the night, the crew I voted for is successful in getting in. If it goes the other way, I may be shaking my head for days, wondering why anyone would vote for the other candidates! I guess that is what makes our democratic system so valuable.

But still hoping my choices are the winners!!
