Blogtober: Day 11.

Last night, we watched the sweetest movie last night .... UP! It's a Disney Pixar Production created in 2009. It was endearing to us on so many levels. A number of similarities to our own journey together as a couple. It was hard not to cry at times and there were many laughs. Carl and Ellie are definitely us, from the differences in their personalities to their baby losses and their sweet little cottage!

Growing old together and living through all their

adventures it brings along. We always called our

"experiences" our adventures. And our quote to

each other when we were 18 was "Grow old with

me. The best is yet to be!" Written by poet Robert

Browning and so fitting at that time in our lives.

The house they lived in was so amazing and this morning, when I was looking for a few pictures to place on my blog, I came across this sweet video of the couple who bought the replica when it was built: http://www.therealuphouse.com/. Hope you enjoy watching it, especially if you've seen the movie. I'm sure we'll be watching this one again and again.

I'll have more to write about later. Big storm hit our area last night so we're off to ensure no damage was done to our little cottage. Showers. Hockey game. And then it's time to celebrate Thanksgiving today, here in windy Canada!

Special Dinner.

We celebrated an anniversary yesterday.

Not our Wedding anniversary but our

"we became a couple" special day. I won't

tell you how many years it was .... but it's

up there! It wasn't an exciting day but we

did do some work around the house and

then showered and went in to our town to

to a wee bit of shopping. Later, we had a

lovely dinner at home and watched our

Netflix. And our choice for last night? A

movie called "Marriage Story" and we

both agreed it was very well done. Still 

thinking about it today. Both Adam Driver

and Scarlett Johansson were so amazing.

Our Wedding anniversary is next month

and it will be a bigger celebration then!

Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House.

 Before we built our dream home, 

we stumbled across an old movie

from 1948, starring Cary Grant, called 

"Mr. Blandings Build His Dream House".

It was adapted from the book that

was written by Eric Hodgins in 1946.

A rainy day movie that gave us some giggles 

and a bit of a peek into the building process.

A journey that had high hopes and many

stumbling blocks along the way like any build.

But in the end, his house was complete and

the dream began, to live in comfort. That's

how I feel about our build. Lots of work and

thought but now the real dream has begun.

We took some time away from the big

world today and snuck away for an early

afternoon movie. "Joy" was quite good,

not as funny as the commercials made

it seem but a great story and well shot.

First time I've been to a weekday

movie since 1985. Worth the wait!

Julie, Julia & Butter.

 After a busy day of sleeping in, then lounging

in the tub, folding laundry, washing floors,

vacuuming carpets, shredding old documents,

packing boxes, donating items (8 boxes!),

cooking meals & doing our taxes, it was time

to sit back & relax. What did I do with my time?

I snuggled up on the couch & found the movie

"Julie & Julia" just about to start. Quite ironic,

as I had just paid a very lovely .50 cents for a

brand new copy of the book last week when we

stopped in at the charity shop to donate some

items. After unloading our bags in the back,

we went around to the front, where I found this

book, a few tiny crocheted doilies & a small

green tray that matches another I bought a

year ago! I haven't even cracked the book

yet but now that I'm almost finished the

movie, it will be next on my reading list.

If you've seen the movie or read the book,

you'll know that butter is a big part of what

makes french cooking so scrumptious. Last

year, for my birthday, I received the book

"Butter Baked Goods" & lovingly wrapped

it up & packed it away to take out once our

new kitchen is all ready to be "christened"

by cooking our first meals. And butter will

be a big part of our staples list. MMmm!!

Capturing December: Day Two.

Hi everyone!

The Capturing December Photo Challenge for today is "Favorite Holiday Movie." I love holiday movies and chose today "The Homecoming" which was the movie that started the long tv run of "The Waltons." My family found this for me last year and I've watched it many times since. It was a thrill to open the gift bag last year, revealing this treasure from my childhood. Thankful that my dh agrees and we can curl up on the couch together to watch it and reminisce!

Hi everyone!

I love so many classic movies and can watch them over and over. Occasionally, a new or newer movie will catch my eye and I'm hooked. The first time I watched "Pitch Perfect" there was no turning back. It's actually a movie we've never bought as it seems to be on tv quite a bit. After a busy day of counseling, reorganizing our family centre and helping move the set for my guy's Fringe Production to the theatre, we came home, exhausted but happy. We literally crawled into bed and watched a short episode of "House Hunters". Then dh changed the channel and discovered "Pitch Perfect" was just starting. A movie that is silly but with a good story and great music!

Writing a Book.

For years, I've had a story in my head that started as an idea and has grown into what has become a movie in my brain. Driving me crazy at times as it swirls about, gaining new characters, scenery changing much like ours does in real life. I find myself sometimes sitting at a red light, wondering if my main character would sit her car the way I do, with my left hand steering, my right hand on the stick shift, music on, sunglasses on top of my head. Does she make lists as she drives, sing along to the music, or marvel at the beautiful countryside? I think of her often and finally decided last year to put this story to paper. That's my first chapter up in the picture. First chapter of a real book.

Yes, a book!

I'm midway through now and although I don't write daily, I am loving the process. I have no idea if what I'm writing is intriguing enough for anyone to want to read it, but I truly need to get it out of my head and the only way to do that was to write it out. My dh, the film maker, read the first chapter and immediately declared it needs to be a movie! Lovely man, my guy. I told him that it feels like a movie in my head and as soon as I said it, felt silly but he got very animated and started talking about how we could shoot it and where.

Yikes!

We'll see. For now, it's a way to keep my creative brain functional beyond my work. For now, I have a title, a plot laid out, characters defined and plug away as the story unfolds. What I don't have is a concrete ending. The primary reason for that is because the big factor with this story is the ethical and moral dilemma that faces all the characters. And in the end, it truthfully comes down to a "what would you do" scenario. That is where I'm stuck. I'm sure there is more than one possible solution but for myself, it is clear there is the right ending and the wrong. I can't decide which one to choose. So for now, the ending sits. 

Maybe I won't know which one I'll choose until I get to that chapter. 

Once it's all said and down, or in this case written, then I'll have to decide what to do. See if a publishing house will consider it. Or self-publish. Or tuck it away in  my archives, never to be read by anyone. Or do as my husband suggests and forget finish writing it the traditional way and write a screenplay instead. 

Can't wait to see what I end up doing in the end!! Today was a perfect writing day, with the snow falling from the blustery sky, my dh at a hockey game with his bestie, my younger dd upstairs cleaning her room and taking a nap, and my other dd out of town for the weekend with our grandson. Chili simmered in the crockpot, a mug of gingerbread white hot chocolate soothed my throat, our pup nestled his body up beside mine and snored the afternoon away, while my fingers clicked and clacked across the keyboard. I changed a character's name, added some details to one paragraph and created new content. Not a quick process but one that unfolds as it needs to, when I feel like adding to it and so far, I'm happy with my work.

.... was absolutely amazing!!

 

We went to the VIP theatre on the 27th.

Tickets were tucked away in my stocking,

a special surprise.

 

The VIP theatre is a new concept in the city

and I was quite impressed.

No children or teens as the theatre is strictly over 18.

Which meant I could hear the movie and

no one kicked the back of my seat!

All seats are reserved so we got to pick online

where we wanted to sit.

Servers come to take your food and drink order,

then bring the items to your seat.

The seats are wide, comfy, reclining

and the aisles wide

so there is even "space" from any chatter that might happen.

The food was hot and delicious and the drinks refreshing.

The service was excellent.

 

Truly the way a movie experience should happen. I loved

every moment and I usually don't like going to the movies.

 

During this movie, it was quiet,

except when laughter needed to happen.

And everyone clapped at the end of the film.

 

Amazing!!

Eat, Pray, Love.

Can't sleep, so I'm cozied up on our family room couch, watching "Eat, Pray, Love",  Julie Roberts is one of my favorite actresses. Loved her in "Erin Brockavitch" and "Step Mom". Dh is asleep upstairs, recovering and everyone else has gone to bed.
