Hello November.

A month that is both a dread as we get closer to
darker nights and cold weather, and a sweet month
with a number of special days, including three of us
in our little family with birthdays. We had truly a
great Summer, but Fall seems to have gone by way
to quickly. We've had 1 small adventure with snow.
It melted quickly but I'm sure the true weather will
show up soon. Until then, I'm still going to enjoy
the little bit of Fall colors that are still hanging on.
Soon the warm colors will become white and crisp!

Hope you're still enjoying an amazing Fall season.

Blogtober: Day 22.

I'm going to miss our little office
once we've moved to the new
centre. This space has held so
many tears and laughter. Cozy!

The Village.

Our tiny Christmas Village. We usually have at
least 2 villages set up each year but for this year,
we had just one. Not as many of the trees are out,
or as many people but we love the cozy warmth.

Where is Spring?

The snow fell but the cottage was warm.
In time, the sun came out and the melt
began. March came in so warm and we
were hopeful Winter was over. But it
hasn't ended, with bits of snow here and
there. One day Spring will be show up!

Spoiled Plants.

I do sometimes spoil my plants just a
bit. This new addition to our "jungle"
needed some extra sun. So I pulled out
the tiny footstool and balanced the pot.

It seems to have worked well as the leaves
are standing just a bit taller and the green
has returned to this little pot. Anything to
keep my sweet little spoiled plants happy!

Hygge Day #2.

Day #2 of the Hygge Photo Challenge.
The prompt was Warmth. And I wrote
the following: "I love the soft light from
our mantel garland and the beautiful
glow of the Christmas tree. A vision of
comfort, peace and warmth." #hygge

Day of Melting.

The sun is out again today, warming the snow covered Earth around us. The drip, drip, drip from the rooftops has begun and I'm sure any moment now our sump pump will drain the tank out to the woods. Unfortunately, then it freezes as night and we're left with a small skating rink on the path to our front door. We are currently working through how to fix this so we don't end up with any long lasting effects or damage. One idea I have is to expand the area where we've put an extended pipe from the sump pump drain out to the treed area beyond our driveway. It pools right now, so we may have to widen it. My other idea is to also add in a little bridge so that the path from the house and then the driveway will have a way to get over the water that sits. Here's a picture of  the bridge ....

Wouldn't that look sweet over the water? Just thinking about it but I like the look of it. We do have our white arbor and picket fence going in this year so we'll have to measure to see if this would fit and how we feel about the black against a landscape with white fencing. Looking at other ideas as well. I wish we could have had a say about where the various systems in our house would be installed so we could all agree on what the exterior would look like with items that need to discharge or have a purpose but could be hidden. Next house for sure, now that we know! So much to learn when building new.

Are you getting Spring weather today?
If you've had snow, is it busy melting away?

Fall Light.

I personally love Fall and the softer light is one of the many things on my "I love Fall" list. Lamps are on in the morning and then later in the day as the sun sets earlier and earlier each day. Sometimes, like this past week with all the mist and rain we endured, the lamps may be on throughout the day. On this particularly gloomy, rainy day, I was in the Art Studio and had both lamps on for the day as I worked on organizing the dollhouse stash. I wanted to make sure I wasn't buying any duplicates prior to attending the Dollhouse Show (big blog post coming up for that one). The light was dim, my eyes were struggling so on went the lamps. It immediately made the studio feel warm and cosy. I love these days where staying inside and working on projects makes me feel homey and cheery.

My Favorite Time of Day.

A few more Winter shots to show my
favorite time of day, just before dusk.

As the sun gets lower, it casts sweet light
on the snow and warms our home with
the last few rays at the end of the day. This is
when we feel the cozy in our little house.

Soft and warm, bright and shadowy, truly it is
and will always be my favorite time of day!

What makes it your favorite?

Woolly, warm socks!

Hi everyone!

Happy Labor Day Weekend!! Today started out a bit cloudy, then the sun came out for a bit, then it drizzled, then it was sunny, then it rained, then the sun came out and finally, the clouds settled and the cool air drifted in. Leaves have been falling all over our back garden, creating a blanket of autumn colors.

Definitely a day to wear some woolly, warm socks and a sweater over my summer shirt. Not sandal weather ~ a light book kind of day. We ventured into the city to attend the last boot sale of the day. I'll write about that soon. Then into the Antique Mall for a little look around after we put our new found treasures into the "boot" of our car!. Inside, we found a few more items that we just couldn't pass up. Picked up a dear friend who was coming over to spend the afternoon with dh to watch the Labor Day Classic ~ a traditional football game between the two big cities in our province. I'm not a football fan, so it was lovely to have the guys occupied while I puttered around the house, reorganizing the kitchen cabinets now that the counter tops are installed.I set up a new packing "zone" and did more purging. Dd and I ventured out to make copies of the sign up sheets for school tomorrow and then we popped in to the centre to feed the class pets. Home to stir the chili that had been simmering all day and baked some biscuits to go with dinner. After dinner, our dear friend and dh drove off to get T home. I've got a sink of dishes to tackle and then the plan is to settle in to watch a movie or show for a bit. An evening to put our feet up, now toasty in woolly, warm socks and relax after a weekend of painting, purging, packing and planning.

How was your long weekend?
Were you productive and relaxed throughout?

Late Afternoon Light.

Our days are beginning to get longer again. When we come home from picking up our daughter at school, we're driving home in a dusky light that is somehow comforting and cozy all at once. I love driving past other homes and peering into the lives of those who live there as they turn on the lamps and lights. Today, it was light until well past dinner time. Soon we'll have light right up until bedtime. Around midsummer, we'll be slightly frustrated as trying to get a 3 year old to sleep at a decent time and even fall asleep ourselves is not easy when the sun is still up at 11 p.m. at night. For now, we bask in the extra sunlight and warmth of the longer days.

Our bedroom window at 5 p.m.

Peeking out my studio window.

The sun is starting to set and
casts a glow on the world.

A peek out our garden doors to the back yard.

Dusky light as the sun sets in the west.

A favorite spot to sit and read at the end of the day.

Are your days becoming longer with light?
