Blogtober: Day 28.

A frosty day, with a late lunch at a local greenhouse
that has a sweet little cafe. Food is amazing and the
walk thru the site after is always fun. We needed a
break from the construction and this hit the spot!

Greenhouse Dining

We had a meeting after work the other
night, so rather than drive all the way
home to the cottage, we decided to do
dinner in town. And ended up at a spot
that we've often said "we should try it
one day." The establishment is called
"Branches" and is located right inside
a local greenhouse we often visit thru
the year to buy plants. We chose to sit
outside as the sun was still very warm.
I had a cold lemonade, 3 cheese bread
and an amazing Summery kale salad
with orange poppy seed dressing. Dh
had a curry bowl and a chilled beer. I
would love to go back and he agreed.
A very lovely gem in our tiny hamlet.

Gnome Greeter.

Needing to exercise my green thumb,
we headed off to our new find in the
country ~ a sweet little greenhouse a
few minutes from the cottage. Always
see the sign but never stopped in. It
was a great treat to finally drive over.
And this is the gnome they have at the
front door to greet all the customers!

Have you found any new spots to explore?

We Did It!

Introducing the newest member of our landscaping
family .... our tiny greenhouse for our little cottage.

It was quite the journey to get her. And then we had
so many delays with rain, or wind, or events. But
finally the stars aligned on the weekend and with
just a handful of tools and a few short hours, here
she is! I know you don't need to have a greenhouse
to be a true gardener. For me, this was and is a dream.

If you have a greenhouse, are you able to use it in
the Winter here in Canada? Still learning if we can.
Any thoughts and tips to share would be so greatly
appreciated as we now figure out the best way to
use this new item to its full capacity. Very excited
and intrigued to see if our garden is better in 2021.

Today if full of Zoom meetings, counselling, file
management, research, some lunch and then one
last counselling appointment in the afternoon. I
then hope to spend some time rooting through the
potting shed to find all my items to move over to
the greenhouse to make it cheerful and inviting.

Wishing you a beautiful Fall day where ever you
are today. Enjoy all the colors and this new Season.

Greenhouse Saga.

All we wanted was a sweet little greenhouse
for our garden. We ordered in April, in the
middle of the Pandemic. It took a number of
weeks, more than double the usual time but
we were patient and understanding. Then the
first piece (1 of 2) finally arrived. We tucked
it away in the garage to wait for the 2nd piece.
Which never arrived. So we had to cancel the
order. And then, out of the blue, the other day,
we went out the door to the car to get some
groceries and there was the 2nd piece against
the garage door. We had been working in the
garden the day before so it must have arrived
at some point after that. No notice. No call.
Thankfully now, our order is restored and we
can start to put it all together. So very excited!

Garden Bliss.

Today, we brought home the annuals,
perennials, herbs and veggies to plant.

Oh! And some raspberry bushes. This is
just the start of our gardening season and
likely we'll need to go back for more. It
was planting day around here, with seeds
and plants going in to the veggie patch,
a spot for a herb garden chosen, a place
for the raspberry patch to start and a
lot of weeding in between! Tons of fun.

Mini Greenhouse.

We wanted to try and start growing our
veggie patch inside the house this year.

I found this sweet little greenhouse kit
at the local dollar store last weekend.

We've now planted a variety of veggies,
herbs and even some flowers to bloom.

Fingers crossed this works well and next year,
if all goes well, we can start our seeds in a
real greenhouse out in the garden. We hope
to buy one by Fall so we'd be ready for 2020.

Have you ever used used a mini greenhouse?
Do you have a big greenhouse in your garden?

Inspiration.

After a very busy weekend, we decided
to treat ourselves with a greenhouse tour.

The pond is not looking healthy but
the rest of the landscape was amazing.

Many colors and inspiration ~ lots of
ideas to take home to our garden plans.

I hope one day to have beautiful and
colorful perennials filling our space.

My favorite of the day ~ a hosta that
is the opposite of the one we have.
White with green edges instead of
green with white edges. Sweet!

We finished off our tour looking at
various kinds of rose bushes to add
to the plan. I love the soft greens of
this one. It has light pink rose petals.
