Last Planting.

We've added to our garden once more.
I love buying plants from our local
greenhouse in August and September
when they put their perennials on sale!

Companion Planting.

I had no idea there was something
called "companion planting." Who
knew? But now I'm reading thru to
see what we can do to increase our
yield this year in our little garden.
Is this something you do in yours?

A Favorite Thing.

It's the weekend & time for Claudia's "A Favorite Thing" at Mockingbird Hill Cottage. It's the 40th week, definitely a celebration on a dreary, rainy day! Hope you'll join in!

For my "favorite thing" this week, I started with making drain holes in the new tall but cute plant pots we bought last week.

My dh had cut this piece of wood to hold the pot inside the bigger plant pot, which is tall & would be far too expensive to fill it with dirt to the top. So he made this to fit the little shelf inside the pot that must have been put there just for that reason!

I then put bricks in the bottom to make the planter heavy all the way down so they won't fall over.

Bricks stacked, shelf in, pot set & then the organic dirt was added.

Planter on the right side of the garage with Lavender. Almost done! Now I need to figure out what little plants I can put around the perimeter of the pot inside so that the green is covered up & the pot is full. Ideas?

Planter on the left side of the garage. I'd also like to add a pretty ribbon that will blow softly in the breeze. A pale, sage green or lavender, or both!

Enjoy reading "A Favorite Thing" over at Claudia's today!

My 100th post ....

.... for the year 2013. My previous 100th post was a combination of all my posts since I started, but that was 70 posts ago, so now I feel like this one is a more official post as an accomplishment of this many posts in one year. Getting better at blogging much more consistently, something popular bloggers suggest so readers have something to look forward to, knowing you'll post often. That's my goal & I'm feeling good about reaching it.

So just how did I celebrate this milestone?

Yup, that's right, I planted!

A great way to spend some time today, in between the rain.

These flowers were potted at the end of planting my big pots with lavender. The rain was holding off, so I quickly grabbed this vintage planter I bought at the Car Boot Sale held at the Antique Mall at the end of May. It was an entire $1 & I love how nicely the Begonias fit into it. It needs a nice, wispy Spike Plant to go between, but for now, I put in the rusty metal stick that the seller thru in for free. I like the look!
