Frozen Treats.

We let our pumpkins, uncarved and
unpainted to be left out for the deer
visit our cottage often. Since I took
this photo, they've devoured 2 of
the gourds, and the other 2 we did
move away from the brick pile for
easier access. A lovely treat for our
little friends in the woods. Yummy!

Our Deer Friends.

Our little deer friends on a warm Summer's day. We
still get a kick out of seeing wildlife on our property.

Deer Treats.

We put out our pumpkins this year for
the deer to snack on. They lasted 2 days!

LIttle Footprints.

Deer on the lane. Always nestled down
in the trees but they do venture out and
about along the lane, often coming in
to our garden. This morning, we found
little footprints up to the rose bushes.
Hopefully they didn't munch on them!

Sweet Baby.

We love having wildlife all around us. And the sweet
deer will always be my very favorite. This baby has
been hanging out behind our cottage and he/she also
wanders around the corner and down the lane. So cute!

Evening Meal.

Look who came to visit us tonight for
her evening meal. Our sweet mama deer!

No sign of her baby. We wondered if
maybe the little one was sleeping and
mama slipped away to get in a few
bites while she had the chance. Sweet!

Tiny Deer.

He guards the Christmas Tree room
each day, keeping any predators away.
Our tiny gold deer is faithful and a
bit menacing as he stands his ground.

Dinner Time.

A deer family came to enjoy some
plants by our veggie patch last night.

They must have known that snow was
on its way. We didn't even know it was.

They filled up and then settled back in
behind our wood pile behind the shed.

And this morning, we woke up to this
new landscape of pure white. Pretty
but it made driving off my plate for the
morning. Much better late in the day.

Grazing Neighbors.

We share our subdivision in the woods
with many wildlife families, like deer.

Thankfully, they have most of the time
left our gardens alone but they do help
greatly in keeping the natural grasses
around us under control by grazing.

Village Deer.

Several deer exist and roam around the
Christmas Village. Just like here at home.

Christmas Deer.

We had visitors in our garden today.
Two little Christmas deer stopped by.

Foraging for their Christmas feast. Lots
to chomp on. Lots to explore. Sweet.

Morning Visitor.

Our daily visits from our little deer family
usually happen around 4 in the afternoon,
except for the occasional morning visit.
Cleaning up our garden before Spring arrives!

Quiet Visitors.

We have a deer family that comes to visit each day
right around 4 p.m., quietly through the woods.

Sometimes they spot us watching them.
I often wonder what they are thinking.

She looks confused! This is the baby we've
watched grow from a tiny doe to full grown.

Off she goes to catch up to her family members.
I love these visits and feel honored they choose to
still come on our property, even though there is
now a house on site and kids toys in the garden.

Do you have deer close by?
Or other quiet visitors in your garden?

A Week Ago ....

.... and our world was blanketed in white! A
storm that was predicated actually happened
and literally shut down everything until the
next morning. We came home just after lunch.

Here's our little cottage in the woods, buried
behind the trees and deep within the snow.

A deer came out, just after dinner, to look
for his own meal, now covered all up.

Wondering if he should venture into the
woods or continue to pluck from our yard.

Spotting us peeking out the windows.
We whisper when we see our deer!

Looking around at the hushed noises
from our house .... so close to us this time.

And finally, trekking back to the forest
to meet up with his little family. Nice visit.

Neighbor Visit ....

.... can you spot him/her in clearing, in
front of the trees and beside the woodpile?

Our sweet deer neighbors are back!
Wonder if they'll have babies soon.

Loved how our grandson was whispering
out the window to say "hello" to our visitors.

Do you have any woodland creatures in your garden?
Do you live close to nature and any wildlife?

The Magic of the Deer.

We have noticed a pattern in our day and it centres
around what we now call "The Magic of the Deer."

In the morning, we look to see if our deer family has
come through our land.  And then we spend time each
day just watching. As soon as we spot them coming
down the drive or through the trees, the "magic"
begins and we become absolutely still as we watch.
Taking pictures or just gazing, they capture our attention.

Love it!!

Dinner Guest!

Baby deer are all over
the countryside.

Creeping closer & closer to
the cottage, checking us out!

Interested but with boundaries.
