Heat Warning.

We are currently under a heat warning that started on Monday and goes until sometime late tomorrow. I'm so very thankful that our cottage has air conditioning, my little car too and our hospice has a cooling system as well. The sun is out, things are growing but it's far too hot to sit outside or do any true gardening. For now, in the morning, when it's cooler, we put our potted plants out on the back deck for a short time, I water them and deadhead, then let them sit until the water has dried on the leaves. Takes at least a solid hour, so off to work I go and then dh brings them in and lines them up on the nook floor on mats. This gives them sun each day and water but they aren't sitting in the extreme heat and wilting. Lots of work bringing them in and out but worth the effort to keep them looking so amazing! I love walking through the garden in the morning, when it's just me and the birds, gathering water from the rain barrel and making sure all the green sprouts are well watered before it gets too hot. I'm happy we're almost done this heat wave and hope we don't have too many this Summer. Always scares me that fires will become an issue.

My to do list was huge today and I'm happy with my accomplishments. I have one more email to send and then I'm shutting everything down so I can get back to my book. Everyone else is happily settled in their own spaces, away from the heat and it's quiet in our cottage tonight. I love nights like this, where contentment reigns, and life is good. Dh is doing his show for the night and then we'll likely watch a taped show, then off to bed once the cottage is cooler. So thankful for a house that doesn't hold the heat too much, and even more thankful we can turn on the AC for about 20 minutes, then shut it down and leave the system fan on to circulate the cool air. I have a friend who leaves her AC all day and all night. That would be way too cold for me. I don't like to be overly hot but cold is not good either. Tomorrow will be better and then we can get more work down outside again. Our neighbor came over with his small tractor on the weekend and he was amazing in moving some dirt down to the spot we want to build our new shed. Now we need more dirt. Hoping to order that tomorrow so we have it for the weekend. Weeding, moving some plants, building the deck and then getting the patio stones ordered are our focus the next week or so. At some point, painting the deck will be next, then the front veranda. It's all coming together. Can't wait for it to be all completed, but at the end of the day, will the landscaping ever be completely finished?

Ugh Weather.

turn in to all sorts of weather warnings. Ugh!

The Long, Never Ending Winter.

I'm officially declaring the Winter of 2019 as "The Long, Never Ending Winter!" Although we had very little snow and warm temperatures for the first half of Winter, the beginning of February became our "Snowmageddon" and it really is not ending! This week, we were promised a stop to the bitter cold with above normal temperatures and lots of sun to help the melting process. We've had a bit warmer air and the sun has been out. But today, which was supposed to be + 2 C, has now changed to - 20 C. The sun, so bright and warm yesterday, has disappeared. Clouds, heavy and dark, have released another round of snow, putting us under a Snowfall Warning. Roads are a mess and work plans have changed. Thankful we can work from home, where it's cozy and warm. Not sure if you can see the snow falling in the picture above but it's falling quickly now and piling up high. 

I was truly getting so hopeful that the end of Winter 2019 was so close. Next week, the predictions were for + 6 C to + 12 C. Now I'm scared to look to see what we can expect. Snow, go away! Leave us alone!! You are no longer welcome here!! We want Spring, flowers and warmth, not snow!!

The one, the only one in the house who loves the snow is this little guy. Of course, he just gets to play in it. He doesn't have to shovel, or navigate icy, snow covered roads to get to school. Just play hockey, even when it's icy air. This was a few days ago after we got home from school. See the clear sky? Blue and pretty! He loves the little rink we created and I'm so happy he's gotten lots of use out of it, despite the cold. Practising his shots on the net, yelling when he scores!

I know when the snow does finally start to go (please soon!), we'll miss the little rink and the funny antics of our little guy being, as he says "The World's Best Hockey Player!" 

I hope wherever you are today, Winter 2019 is almost over. We'll get through this, and I know soon I will be able to share pictures of our sweet little garden. Not today, but soon! Pretty blooms, fragrant smells, warm Earth, budding trees, singing birds, babbling brooks. Soon, I hope!!

Tornado Season.

It's 7:44 on Sunday evening and we are once

again under a Tornado Warning. Every July

we watch the skies and hope that the watches

and warnings never turn in to anything big.

Lots of close calls though like this picture

showing a touch down in the Big City next

to us. No damage as it just came down and

went right back up again. Still very scary.

The storm tonight interrupted our Game of

Thrones time, so we had to shut everything 

down and come up to read while it pours rain 

and thunders outside. The moisture is always 

welcome but the noise and the extravagant light 

shows can just go away. I'm really not a fan of this.
