Dented Ice.

It was cold but we could all skate.
Then it warmed up and the ice did
a melt. The wind blew over the net
and dented the ice. No skating now!

After the Freeze ....

We had a lovely weekend that ended up being so warm, our jackets were tossed on the deck while we explored our woods, skated for 2 days straight, enjoyed a fire and s'mores, played hockey with our neighbors down the lane and their littles, played our tunes and enjoyed the amazing fresh but warm air. The sun shone and really helped us all forget all about the deep freeze that we are now on the other side of. We created some great memories this weekend! And look forward to more skating this week.

How was your weekend?

Christened Rink.

We "christened" the rink today with our neighbors,
our little cohort! After months of planning, many
false starts with a leak, then super warm weather,
we finally poured the water last Friday, just as the
deep freeze started. We now have perfect ice! So
worth the long wait. Earlier today, we went in to
town to help the girls find new skates and we ran
in to the best neighbors who live just down the lane.
They were buying skates too! And the plan was on
to come down to skate with us this afternoon. You
can see A with his little son R in the picture behind
us as the girls were getting fitted for their skates. As
cold as it's been, it was lovely today and we were
outside for a solid two hours before we finally got
a bit cold. I love the store had a set of lush green
theatre chairs for seating. How perfect is this, for
a theatre family, turned ice skaters today? It was
such a great day of skating. Many more to come!

Do you have a rink in your yard?

The Beginning of our Rink!

With a 5 year old hockey star in the
family, it was time to make our first
backyard rink. This will likely take
several weeks before its ready.

But "construction" is now underway.
We have amazing weather right now.
And helpful neighbors. Soon, once it's set
up and iced, we'll skate under the stars!

Have you ever had a backyard rink?

First Stick!

He did it!
He learned to skate all by himself.

The reward?
His first hockey stick.
Custom cut to his height.

Congratulations B!
We're proud you met your goal!!

Sunday Skating.

We spent today purging closets and taking the items we no longer need or use but still have life in them over to the charity shop for donation. I counted 18 big garbage bags full to the top. That's a lot of stuff that left our house today. Just 2 bags of garbage went out to the bin. I'm so excited to see our home emptying as we get ready for the building of our new home and eventually the sale of this one. It's a bigger house but we'll  have less stuff in it.

Tonight we're off to skate at the pond at our rec centre. Our little guy is so determined to be a hockey player and step one is helping him learn to skate. He's taking lessons on Friday nights and then we all head to the pond to practice. It's working as he's getting steadier each time. We're getting in shape. And we have fun!

Did you skate as a child?
Do you skate now as an adult?
