Thankful Thursday.

I try to and often am able to find things I am
thankful for each day. Some days when life is
tough, it's hard to find even the smallest thing
to feel gratitude for. But I manage! Today, on
Thankful Thursday, here's what I'm thankful for:

* a flexible schedule that allowed me to have a
Zoom meeting with my mom's care providers
today for her annual review. She's doing so well
in her home and for that, I truly am beyond grateful.

* Sunny days, big puddle to walk through, green
buds poking through the dirt and big blue skies.

* the warmth outside that is keeping us from being
inside! It's over 15 degrees Celcius today, which is
I'm sure a new record. Usually at this time of year,
it would be about ~ 2 to ~10 and snowy. Thankful!

What are you thankful for on this fine Thursday?

New Year ....

I have no profound words to end out this year.
Just immense feelings of gratitude for the many
ways in which our world has banded together to
fight something bigger than all of us. It's not over
yet and there is much work to do, but we will go
to sleep later tonight with hope for what can be.

Happy New Year my dear blogging buddies!
Wishing you peace and good health for 2021!!

Hygge Day #4.

Hygge Day #4. The prompt was Gratitude.
On this day, I wrote:"Our family, the one
we created and the ones we came from,
our beloved little cottage we built for us,
in the big woods, carefully crafted creative
careers and abundant health. Gratitude."

Treating my Crew.

Each time we end an 8 week grief program,
I like to treat my truly hard working crew.

They work so very hard, giving their time
on often cold Saturday mornings to work
with very vulnerable children, teens and
their parents, teaching each about grief.

It may seem like a simple card and a store
bought gift certificate would be not very
personal but I've learned this is one thing
they love and it fits well in our meager
budget. But the real gift is the words I
write for each of them, unique for all and
excitedly received. The gratitude I feel
could never be measured, so this is one
way I can show my appreciation. Their
reactions are priceless and worth the time.

It's the little things!

I've spent a lot of time over the last few months
getting rid of stuff as well as re~configuring how
my brain operates. Letting go of the big stuff that
in the end, doesn't count & appreciating the little things.

Here's my little thing for this week.

I ordered the Game of Thrones soundtrack
from Season 1 & The Afternoon Tea Collection
for the new house. And my heart is so full
with excitement & gratitude. Can't wait for
the doorbell to ring & the postman is on the
other side with these sweet packages for me!

Tell me what makes you stop & truly
appreciate the little things in life ....

Our Last Thanksgiving ....

Hi everyone!

Yesterday, we celebrated the last Thanksgiving Dinner that we'll ever have in this house. A year from now, we'll be out in the country, nestled in the forest, but creating new memories in our new space. I'm sad to be leaving here after all these years but excited too for our new adventure. This has been a good home, a safe and warm shelter from the harshness of life outside these walls. A place to be ourselves, a ongoing project of trying out our DIY skills and a haven for our children to be born and sadly, for some of them to die. We'll take with us our memories, our experiences and our gratitude for a lovely place to call home!

It was a relaxing day shared with family. Here's some shots from the warm, fall day that we were gifted from nature:

Pumpkins, scarecrow and an excited little boy!

Front hall. Warm lights. Vintage butter dish.

Turkey, spicy gravy, cranberry sauce and warm buns.

Veggies, pickles, buns and Thanksgiving crackers!

My family, waiting for my mom to make the salad.

Random shots to fill the space ....

Teapot for gravy, owl butter knife, preschooler's tree and me!

Always so much fun to plan a big meal. We were supposed to be a party of 8 but our dear friend has come down with a nasty flu bug, so we were sad he wasn't present but happy he could stay home to rest and recover. Our menu was roasted turkey, gravy made from the pan drippings, fresh cranberry sauce, veggies in butter and seasoning, mashed potatoes, salad with cucumbers and bacon strips, and warm from the oven butter buns. Mmmmmm! Today, we're slowly simmering the bones for turkey soup. And warm turkey buns to go with the soup.

The last shots of the day were the sweetest. Top left corner, see the green tea pot? No, we did not have tea during dinner! We had to compromise because I somehow packed our insulated gravy pitcher. Oops!! But truth be told, the tea pot worked really well. Hmmm! You can also nicely see the old but new to us 8 candle holder with pumpkin colored tea light holders. Found at our local charity shop last week, on sale, for a mere $2. Snapped it up and love the glow it provided. In the next shot, you can see my other charity shop find, the vintage butter dish, for another $2. Loved the delicate lacy border. And resting on the dish? My $6 find at Hallmark ~ an owl butter knife. I have a spring one for our Easter dinner and a sweet Christmas one and now, a Thanksgiving knife. Next in the left corner is B's contribution to our special dinner ~ his art project, a colorful tree. Finally, in the bottom right hand corner, my dear husband insisted on a shot of moi. I'm always behind the camera but he wanted to show off my new April Cornell finds ~ a pretty fall dress with a silky underskirt and a lovely new apron we found on our recent trek to the mountains. She is my favorite designer. I love the vintage look and feel of her clothing line and her linens for the home.

That was our Thanksgiving Dinner, the final in this house. A day of family, love, memories, gratitude and peace. All I could ask for and hope for. It is, in the end, all that matters!!

How do you celebrate Thanksgiving?

Give Thanks!

Hi everyone!

It's Thanksgiving Weekend in Canada and we always choose to celebrate on the Sunday, though the actual day is the Monday. We love to have the day after our big family dinner as a day of rest and fun before we begin our week again.

Wishing all my Canadian family and friends, near and far, in person and from respective blogs, a weekend filled with love, peace and gratitude. And a year full of good healthy and family. Happy Thanksgiving cheer to one and all!!

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow." ~ Melodie Beattie

Gratitude!

Thank you for listening to me on a very down day.

Sometimes, the opportunity to
vent is all that is needed.

The rest of the week went so well, better than I could
have asked for and I wanted to stop for a  moment
and say "Thank you" for your ear and your time.
So truly appreciated!!

Gratitude.

There are so many things that I
am grateful for in my life.

A fun, loving family,
a warm, cozy home,
a creative, flexible career,
a circle of support that we can
lean on, sharing the good
days and the bad.

Today, I am grateful for
the amazing blogging world.
Laying in bed, utterly miserable
with pain and congestion,
your blogs have taken me
away from my plight, given me
hope with your beautiful pictures of
spring that ours might just be
around the corner, and
you've entertained me with
stories and images of your lives,
a wonderful distraction from
these dreary days.

Thank you all for sharing your
journeys with all of us who
spend time each day reading them!

Thankful for Pneumonia!

My cold has progressed to pneumonia, an annual event for me in this house.  A side effect from being an asthmatic kid. But for the first time ever, I'm truly thankful for this blip in my schedule!

While I am not happy to be this ill, I'm relieved to have some time just for me to stay in bed and get better. Life has become increasingly hectic over the last few weeks and I'm quickly falling behind in all my projects. While laying in bed for the next few days will not cure what ails me, it will give me some time to clear my head, rethink my priorities and create an action plan. I was feeling quite overwhelmed yesterday but waking up today and deciding that everything will have to fall to the wayside so I can recover has made me feel better already. I'm going to lay here and get better and dream. And then put the plan into place so I don't have to rely on getting sick for my world to slow down.

Definitely not the best way to live this beautiful life!

Thankful for an incredible work environment where my time is my own and taking time to fight this battle is not a burden on anyone.

Thankful for a dear husband who takes care of me the best he can and is coming home early this afternoon to pick up our daughter from school and make me my favorite soup.

Thankful for a warm and cozy house that is sheltering me today from the blustery snow outside. Yes, it is May 1st in Alberta but that clearly hasn't stopped Mother Nature from extending winter this year.

Thankful for my soft bed that comforts my aching body and makes sleeping easier when every thing hurts!

Thankful for my naturopathic doctor who has just the right combination of herbs and supplements so I can heal without any side effects from drugs.

Thankful for sleeping dogs at the moment. Not sure how I will manage to take them outside but dd made sure they had a good run this morning. If all goes well, they'll sleep well until dh gets home!

I'm off to make a steaming cup of tea to savor in my cozy bed. Looking foward to feeling stronger and back to a better path once this bug leave my body. Have a lovely day and stay healthy!!
