Birthday Flowers.

My mom's birthday was on the weekend.
She's creeping along getting closer to 80.
So thankful she's healthy but wish her
mind was still all intact. So many more
stories and true wisdom to share that she
now has so much difficulty in providing.

Happy Birthday to the sweetest mama!
The flowers were a gift from my auntie.
So loved, so missed by those who can't
visit. I miss her funny jokes and her laugh.

Catching Up ....

I've gotten behind in my "Capturing"
blog posts. We had a little scare with
my mama and it meant taking time
away from other ventures. Mom above.

My fierce mama is progressing in her dementia. I hate this journey but love that she's still healthy, full of laughs and living her best life in her retirement village. Last week, they had 8 staff members who all tested positive for Covid. Not one of them had been at work since the 6th and all had very minor cold symptoms. The centre is already in lockdown, as most are, so nothing changed from our end. But what was scary was my mama was one who had direct contact with her caregiver, who was now ill. So scary, I couldn't sleep, didn't know if she was going to contract it but at the end of this week, we got the very good news that she is well, the 8 have all recovered and all residents continue to be negative in their testing. I've never been so relieved in my life. This centre has done an amazing job and to date, not a single resident has become ill with Covid. Fingers crossed this trend continues. That was way too stressful! They've been swabbing quite frequently and that seems to be a key for early detection. We can't have her home for Christmas due to restrictions in our region but we are so happy she's well and know she'll have an amazing day with all her buddies and the staff. We'll Skype in and enjoy a visit, 2020 style! Now I've got to get back to catching up!

Hope you've had an amazing week!

Baby Fawn.

These will not be the best pictures
but look what we spotted by the
potting shed last night! A tiny baby
fawn, sneaking a drink from mama!

We have had many deer families over
the time we've lived at the cottage.

But this is the first time we've spot such a
new and tiny fawn. Often we don't see any
babies until mama and sometimes papa are
out for a little walk with their bigger babies.

They spotted us and started to tip toe back
to the forest. Quietly and peeking back at us.

The meadow is so tall at the edge of the forest
so we lost sight of the baby fawn. Such a treat
though. All day today while we worked inside
and out, we'd stop to look to see if mama and
baby would be back to visit. I'm sure she's so
protective but we hope in time they'll visit again.

My Mama.

We visited on Friday, not knowing that would be
our last visit for a while. The very next day, her
care home went in to lock down. NO residents are
ill and staff is so far all healthy. But NO visitors.

Sad we can't visit but happy so far, it's safe and no illness
is drifting through. Hopefully this won't last long and we
can reconnect with my mama. Thankful for the care she
receives each day. Hurry up Pandemic and go away!!

Mama's Hair.

I love that the staff at my mom's care
home does her hair every day. Today,
it was 2 sweet braids, just like mine!
We looked like twins. Such great care.

Downsizing Files.

On the subject of my mama, I've been
downsizing the items we have to keep
for her. Her items that bring her joy
and memory are in her little abode at
the care centre. I have some very, very
precious items here that we don't want
to go missing (they recommended this)
and I have all her financials. It's taken
quite a while to sort but I've managed
to get her documents down to these 2
boxes along with one plastic bin that
has her current statements and bills in
it. A big job but I got it done and am
proud to have it set for her now. Ta da!!

Mama's Mind ....

.... works in many mysterious ways!
With her dementia, we never know
what we'll find as we finish up going
thru her decades of life ~ $5 in an
envelope. No name on it. No note.
No address. No instructions. Hmm ....
