My Era.

Though we are finally having a warm
Winter after all the snow in December,
it's still my "I want to stay home"era. I
do love to be home, cozy and warm. If
the snow is swirling outside and the wind
is blowing, that's even better. For now,
we have sunny days that melt the snow.
And warm air that means we don't have
to be completely bundled up. A January
that we're not used to but are embracing!

How is your January going?

Before the Snow.

Before we had snow, I took these two
photos that showed a bright sun on the
way home from our centre one day. It
was bright and hopeful, before the snow!

Early Morning.

I love coming down in the morning once
the sun is up and capturing moments like
this. The sun creating light and warmth on
the walls. Frosty outside but warm inside.

Sun Shadows.

Early morning and the kitchen is filled with what
I call "sun shadows" ~ bits of sun that hit different
parts of the space, and move, as the warm sun moves
across the sky. A quiet house with light and love ....

Morning Sun.

I love the morning sun as it streams
through the shutters in the nook in the
cottage. A new season, early sun, warm
light and a cozy place we call home.

Can It Really Be?

The sun is shining. The snow is melting
away. The birds are on the feeder and
singing away. The trees are looking like
there may be buds on the branches. Can
it really be? Is this the Spring we need?
I am so hopeful this is it. Please, please!

Eric Sunning.

A quick snap of Eric the leafy tree in
our kitchen nook sunning in the warm
light today. It's still crazy cold (- 30's)
but today did get up to -24 and we did
drive in to the Big City to retrieve an
item that had been ordered for dd. I
was super warm the whole time due
to our car being in the garage during
this time. Heated seats helped too! It
was a good thing we chose today to
go out after a solid week at home as
the prediction for tomorrow is -36
degrees Celcius in the afternoon. We
don't go back to work until next week
but between the huge spike in Covid
and the weather, it will be interesting
to see what happens. For now, we'll
enjoy our cozy cottage and stay warm!

The Sky Opened ....

Our snow finally arrived but it fell from the sky in
the form as a nasty blizzard. We got snowed in and
then the next day, it warmed up, the sun came out
and our shoveling began. Thankful we are all okay.

Light Moments.

After a night, a day and then another long night of
high winds, blowing snow and cold temperatures, we
have had a lovely, warm and very sunny day. The snow
has melted and the air is heating up. I took a few key
photos from around the cottage today to show the sun
in a couple of spots. Spent some time outside as well.
It was a brief reminder that Winter has ended but can
always show up anytime again. Welcome back, Spring!

Rain and Sun.

We've had crazy amounts of rain again
this year. You've heard me talk about it!

It makes for dreary days at times but
we always find something to do inside.
Like art projects, reading books we've
wanted to for a long while, working out
or my new favorite ~ repainting the
entire house. When the sun is out, the
house is empty! We'll sit outside for
the longest time, taking it all in. I do
love both ~ the rain keeps us inside,
cozy and warm ~ the sun brings us
back out to be warm and free. Which
do you like the best? Rain or Sun?

Rain and Sun.

After several days of sun and heat, we woke up to the
sound of rain pitter pattering on the roof. Dark skies, a bit
of wind gusts and rain that was light but went on for
hours. I love sunny days but my favorite is a rainy day,
a time for being cozy in our cottage, with tea, a good book,
a warm throw and music in the background. Some days,
it's even perfect for the fireplace to be going. We all had
Zoom meetings this morning and lots to keep us busy with
work. By lunch time, the rain was lighter and lighter and
soon stopped. I had to turn off my lamp on my desk as it
was then too bright. I love working by lamplight and today
was perfect for that. But it came to end and on with the
day we went. I read that tomorrow may bring dreaded
thunderstorms. Definitely not my favorite experience!

The afternoon became very sunny and at this time of night,
the sun is still shining brightly with no clouds and a breeze
that is keeping the leaves on the trees dancing away. It was
pretty to watch and then I saw the drips of rain falling off
the Pergola, hence the photo below. Can you see the tiny
drops hanging off the beams? I just spotted the top of the
tree in the back that we'll have to get trimmed back this
year as well. In the country, there is always something
to take care of. We found a lovely arborist last year and
just found another, so we have a few options. Out here,
we do need to take down trees that have no leaf growth
so they don't fall on us during bad wind storms. Critical
for sure so we end up with no damage versus having to
call someone out very late at night or during a huge storm.

Today was a mix of rain and sun, a mix of positive and
negative. Sometimes like life, we see it here in both the
seasons, the landscape and within ourselves, our moods
and our progress in life. I'm glad this day had it's sweet
moments and hope the bad stuff is done, for now. I'm
off to take some time before we head to sleep. G'nite!

Sunbathers.

I'll start my post today by saying that in time I'll write about life here in the little cottage in the big woods during this very large scale pandemic. But for today, while the sun is shining, I'm taking a break from reading and watching news reports. It's so overwhelming and frankly terrifying. I'm visualizing that we are in a bubble while we self isolate and get used to being home and cozy more than usual.

Look at my happy plants! They were lacking some good sun as we've had a week of cloud and snow again. Not a lot of snow, just flurries and windy days. Today, the sun is bright, the sky is blue and they are soaking it all up! I have a minor cold but might go for a little walk later today ~ the air continues to warm as the day goes on. Yesterday, I reorganized our big walk in closet and today I want to purge the art studio a bit later. First a work out, a shower and some lunch. Maybe a movie later or a letter writing session. Maybe some art. Maybe some dollhouse work. Tonight, a few shows to watch and then early bed so we stay rested.

Hope you and your family are well.
Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Sun & Snow.

Winter continues to be strange this
year, just like our weird Summer was.

We've had no snow, lots of snow, melting
snow, falling snow and now raining snow.

However, we've also had a lot of sun and
that somehow always makes the snow ok.

Another sunny day here in our neck of
the woods. Melting will occu all week
as our weather forecast is for 2's to 4's.
I cleared away the snow from the sump
pump area and the long downspouts to be
ready for the onslaught of fast water that
is bound to happen with all this melting.
Spring is almost here ~ I can feel it!!

Morning Sun.

I love how the sun in the morning
flows across the house, back to front.

In the kitchen, it reflects on the cabinets
and then leaves a path across the island.

Slowly, it moves in to the family room,
showcasing the tiny art on the walls.

Peeking down the hall to the front of
the house and at the door to the veranda.

In time, it seeps in to the living room, making
the room seem alive for a time. Bright and cheery.

A bit of leftover light from the family
room, down the hall, in the front hall.

Peeking around the corner, full and
almost blinding. I should put some
plants in this area. They would love
the bright and the warmth all around.
