So Very Loved.

I forgot to post about Mother's Day .... it was a
sweet day, with love and gifts, laughter and good
food. I was, as always spoiled with items that
made me giggle but also feeling so very loved!

Mom's Birthday.

Mom just had her 80th Birthday on the 18th of April. We celebrated with her and the care team at her assisted living centre but she didn't really catch on that it was her special day. Treats and gifts and lots of laughter. But my heart breaks as we visit and see how much her cognitive mind has changed. I love this photo, when she was healthy and she knew who we were then. Now she smiles and babbles along, but I'm sure we show up as strangers in her vision. It was still a beautiful day and I love we can spend time with her. Can't believe my "young mom" is now 80!!

Special Gift.

We were so excited to be gifted this amazing
crystal nativity set from a dear friend and her
sweet daughter. I have my gramma's set, my
mom's and now we have our own. Beautiful!

Special Day.

I missed recognizing International Women's Day
here on the blog. Celebrated on March 8th each
year, I was first introduced to this special day at
the age of 16 when I was in the Soviet Union on
a school trip. We planned to be in Red Square on
the 8th, expecting to see women marching or being
honored. We were so disappointed when we got
to the square and it was all men. Where were the
women, we wondered? We found out later that
it was not meant to be a place for them as they
worried an uprising would occur. This image of
no women on International Women's Day will
stay with me personally forever. I'm so thankful
to live in a country where days like March 8th
are recognized for what it is meant to be. I know
this is not true everywhere but hope it continues
to change, especially in places where women are
not valued. What did you do on the 8th of March?

Birthday Dinner.

Celebrating birthdays at this stage in
my life is not as exciting as when I
was a child. But I've learnt in the last
few years that it can still be a great day.

After a couple of harsh work days, it
was a lighter load today, with the end
of the day spent teaching a class at
the University. I love teaching adults
about life experiences, like grief and
loss. They eat up every word. So
empowering! And they always give
us the very loveliest gifts at the end.

Picked up our grand baby from school and
came home to find treats for dinner. A yummy
asian stir fry with my favorite cool drink, with
extra, extra lemonade, thank you very much!

Then it was time for cake. A scrumptious and light
whipped cake with chocolate covered strawberries.

Oooh, so good! My dh carefully picked the
strawberries off the cake so I could indulge
in these sweets. Guess what? I didn't share
either!! Only on this day, the day of my
birth, do I ever allow myself to be selfish.

It was a great day. I received so many FB
birthday wishes that I'm having a hard
time keeping up in thanking each poster.
Texts from special friends and family. And
some lovely calls, including a surprise
one from our Mayor. Had a great chat
with her and loved what she shared with
me ~ that's a story for another day. We
learned some much needed funding came
through for my centre, another fundraiser
yesterday netted more funds than we
had hoped for and new granting streams
that we thought had dried up years ago.
Much lighter and brighter day today.
This getting older is not so bad!! I
could live these special days more often.
