Sleepy Owl ....

I wish I could sleep! I woke up @ 2:08 a.m. for no reason at all. It's now past 4 and I've gone through my worry list (thankfully it's pretty short at the moment), revamped my schedule in my head, checked my notes for next week, played 2 games of online Solitaire (it grounds me for some reason), wrote and published a blog post, read about 40 blog posts on my favorite blogs, researched how to connect our rain barrels from the downspout so the rain can stop spraying all over and just go in the barrel, drank a glass of lemonade, meditated, stretched, tried different positions, wrote a letter in my head, thought about all the things I want to do today and then pared down my list an hour later when I realized at some point today, I'll need a nap and updated my Fitness Pal with stats for the last day.

Why can't I sleep? I have no idea. Saturday was rough but we got through it and we headed to bed early to watch SNL and catch up after a busy week. I fell asleep pretty quickly but am now wide awake, listening to "Thumper" outside (our Prairie Chicken who is searching for a mate) and my dh's soft breaths as he sleeps (lucky guy). Even though it was a rough day, life is good and I have no reason to be awake worrying, which I'm not. I'm just AWAKE! I will take some Melatonin tonight so I don't get in to a pattern and hopefully a few nights of that will reset my brain to sleep.

How do you deal with waking up in the middle of the night?
Any tips you can share to get back to a more restful sleep?

Nap and your plans for sleeping, good. Your awake time was very full of what and when and how and writing. Thanks Chy for reality writing.

I am wide awake at the same hours many nights!:((( The melotonin doesn't seem to do the job much lately. I have been able to get 4 hrs of sleep until lately, but not so much lately???? Am turning 70 & really should be able to sleep well, but there's always something to worry about! I often think it's our horrible political climate :(

I don't have any tips to share. I hope this sleeplessness is a rare occurrence.
DH has taken Melatonin but it leaves him feeling drugged in the mornings so that's not good.

The only time I had trouble sleeping was when my hips were arthritic. Sometimes if I wake up early I just get up and make coffee. I wouldn't do that at 2:00 a.m., though. It sounds like something was bothering you from your stressful day. I hope you feel better and get some rest.

You sure put those sleepless hours to good use.
One thing that puts me to sleep is reading a boring book!
Hope you get a good nights sleep tonight!!

Look up “second sleep”. Basically, normal sleep cycle is sleep 4 hours, wake for hour, sleep some more. So when I wake, I don’t force myself to try to go back to sleep nor fret that I’m awake. I consider it normal and passing. I just do very basic task like empty the dishwasher, start a laundry load, polish my shoes, then I go back to bed and usually fall to sleep.

Best wishes, gail

Priscila, I feel your pain and agree that worrying can keep us awake at night, especially given our political climates in both the U.S. and now in the Province we live in here in Canada. Lots to think about! X Chy

Granny, Melatonin often works for me and I don't feel groggy. But only take it a few times a year to get my sleep back in order. I'll be starting it next week and have high hopes I'll be back on track right away!

Thank you Happy! I plan to keep more books by my bed. That should help too.

Gail, I love you are able to do some tasks when you can't sleep. I can't get out of my warm bed and go all the way downstairs. I'm awake but the energy is not there for sure! I'm going to try Melatonin next week and reading more. That should work!

Thanks for visiting.
