Cashing In!

Yesterday, we hauled a tin and a jar full of loose coins to our local bank. They recently acquired a coin counting machine and we decided to take advantage of this free service to cash in our coins. On the way, we each guessed how much was in our stash. Ranging from $20 to $40, we were blown away by the final tally. Our guesses were not close at all!

In the end, a sweet $79.80 was deposited to our travel account for our upcoming trip to Disneyland! The jar is now sitting in the kitchen cupboard and the tin back in our bedroom closet for our loose change to pile up again. Next weekend, we're taking in the empty bottles that are bagged up and just sitting in our garage. I'm guessing $50 but we'll see what that total comes out to.

Do you save coins for a rainy day?
Do you take in your empty bottles for the cash?

All our coins and our bottle return money goes into the travel fund. It is quite shocking how they both add up

I was shocked because the bulk of the coins was pennies. Lots of dimes and nickles and just 40 quarters. No loonies or twonies either. This amount is exactly the cost of the bus fare from the airport to our hotel and then back again, so it's a nice bonus for the trip!

That is awesome! I need to cash our piggy too. It's been full for a while...

Well done! :) No, I don't save coins... hubby uses them at work for juice, flavoured waters, etc... or the kids end up getting them! ;)

Lena, you might be quite amazed how much it's worth when you take it in!

Carla, we rarely had coins in the past as we always had a way to spend them and of course, the kids would ask for them. But now it's just us as everyone has their own sources of income so the coins pile up quickly. We're off to a good start with our new stash already!

I opened up a drawer today in my art studio that I'll need to tackle on the weekend and as it moved, it jingled!! I think we found another stash of coins to take in!! This trip could be paid for by recycling and cashing in coins if we're lucky!
