Christmas quickly disappeared from the cottage yesterday. We took down the tree, carefully wrapping up each ornament and putting them safely away in the boxes they came from. I feel so lucky to have a "Christmas" room in my house where all the decorations are stored away. When we were designing our cottage, it was one thing I hoped to squeeze in. It's not a large room, but it's just big enough to house 5 sturdy Ikea shelves that hold not just Christmas items but also decor for all the seasons. Our tree ironically is not stored here. We discovered last year that our new tree, when apart, fits perfectly into one of the window seats in the kitchen nook. Our guests will never know that as they sit to enjoy a meal (if we're not in the dining room) that they are sitting on our tree! Great way to use empty space.
The turret looks so spacious now. Our mantel is empty. The sofa table is back under our big window but needs some life to be installed on the top. I put the sweet little ceramic green basket in the one corner, the banker's lamp on the other. I'm thinking some plants, a stack of books, some treasures .... will post once it's all put in place. When the tree goes up, the desk moves from the turret to under this window and becomes the place to hang our stockings (too heavy once they are filled for the mantel) and display the beautiful cards we receive through the season. Now it's back in it's spot with my wooden birdhouse, some candles, two lit bottles and plants. A sunshiny spot that is now open for writing. However, last night, as were putting everything back in it's place, we talked about selling the desk as we now have the secretary and the need for another desk really isn't there. If we can sell it and open up that spot, we could move the piano back to the turret. Then my dream would be to find a lovely vintage sideboard to put under the window in the dining room. I'd love to keep the linens for dinner parties in the room, instead of upstairs in the linen closet. I know it's highly unlikely we would find the same wood tone as my grandparents dining room set so we've already decided we'd sand it down and chalk paint to complement the colors in our cottage. Looking forward to this new project soon.

Or any projects you have planned for the future?

Our homes always look so sparse, after all the baubles and twinkling lights are returned to their boxes. I 'spect it is what makes the Christmas season even more special, the over-indulgence allowed.
How lucky that your tree fits snuggly away in it's own little box, easily retrieved when next Christmas rolls around...ours not so much :)
Your home is a beautiful respite.

We took Christmas down in early January but we left winter out. Now I need to decorate for Valentine's Day... and I'd best do it soon as it's less than two weeks away!
We still have the red Christmas items, on the mantle.
With added Valentine things.
And our tree, with only tiny red balls and things on it.... Is now a Valentine Tree!
And of course, my faerie lights stay up all year long.
So our hearth room is still a wee bit decorated. -smile-

Thank you for visiting Jo. We had no idea when we asked for window seats that our tree would be a perfect fit! So much easier too to not have to drag it downstairs and fit it in our tiny storage room.

I have to decorate this week for Valentine's Day too Debi. Not as much as Christmas of course. Just enough so it's clear this sweet day is almost here!

Wisps, I love how you've kept some items up to repurpose for the Winter!
